These stair systems feature self-levelling steps, so you can stand on a completely flat tread when the unit is placed at a variance of pitch angles – from 25° to 50°. And when you need to transport it, the unit packs down flat in one movement via collapsible handrails and steps that auto-fold back within the side rails.

Our client was operating both D11 and D10 Caterpillar dozers, on which they carried out scheduled maintenance.

Loosely based on a standard line product—the Super Maintenance Platform (SMP)—the dozer access platform is easily wheeled up to the vehicle, with a cantilevered standing area that hangs well-balanced over protrusions.

Many heavy vehicles present challenges for height access safety during maintenance – curved walking surfaces, slippery underfoot, awkward protrusions and more. This example system was created for a client who operated a tanker truck fleet. They needed fall protection in an all-in-one unit when accessing hatches and connection points.

Standard ways of doing this was deemed too dangerous, so the client asked SafeSmart to design and build this aluminum heavy vehicle maintenance platform. Telescopic handrails jut out over the top of the tanker, reducing overreaching, and the platform eliminates the need for workers to stand on top of the tank itself.

A metropolitan rail operator in Sydney Australia needed a complete ‘all-in-one' system for gaining access to the top and doors of their rolling stock during maintenance. And because their facility had no permanent docking to suit all types of trains, the system needed to be easily maneuvered in addition to being strong.

Maintenance is carried out on overhead systems of the train and within door-level compartments. SafeSmart took measurements of all critical access points and utlilized their in-house design team for creating a unique mobile platform. This two-level platform is made from high-tensile aluminum and features integrated power outlets and a rubbish chute for easy disposal of debris without having to climb down.

Rubber buffers and flaps help to protect the train itself from the platform.

Since this installation, similar operators in the UK have commissioned SafeSmart to supply systems like this for their workshops. SafeSmart can design, manufacture and deliver these products to anywhere in the USA.

When maintenance staff have to walk on uneven and slippery surfaces for maintenance activities, it can be a recipe for accidents and injuries. A SafeSmart client who operated a fleet of plant machines experienced this. Inadequate ladders and steps were constantly being repositioned and contractors were not able to reach engine bays and other points of maintenance without overreaching.

SafeSmart's in-house design team came up with this loader platform, made from high-tensile aluminum for hand-portability and weather resistance. The system simply wheeled up to vehicles and foot-locked into place, creating an extra set of steps and stable working platform on both sides of the loader, as well as a platform that spans across the entire loader, for access to windscreens and the engine. And despite being custom in nature, the unit is as compliant to OSHA codes as any other ‘off the shelf' unit is.

Originally designed for a client in Australia, this platform—similar to, and based on our truck loading platforms—allows safe and efficient access to the side of a locomotive for engine maintenance.

Work on these locomotives needed to be done away from any permanent platforms, outside of the workshop, often in remote maintenance locations where no permanent height access infrastructure is present.

This high-tensile welded aluminum platform is simply wheeled by hand up to the locomotive and foot-locked into place. Maintenance contractors are able to work with a hand free for tools, complete with edge protection.

This client needed access over the front of a sheepsfoot roller during maintenance and windscreen cleaning. The irregularly-patterned and cylindrical shape of the roller itself made for a very dangerous situation when clambered on, especially if any residual mud, debris or water was present.

A full-surround solution like a loader platform wasn't required, so Safesmart identified a simple solution, already existence in their range. With a bit of customization for add-on components, and the use of two Super Maintenance Platforms (SMP), SafeSmart were able to provide an easy-to-wheel and deploy bridging system that helps workers scale the machinery with a wide, level and stable platform underfoot.

Comprised of two SMPs and a well weight-rated aluminum bridge, this system has helped the client get the job done faster and more safely.

Designed from scratch by our in-house team, this hand-portable aluminum platform brought our client added efficiency and safety during maintenance and cleaning tasks on their bus fleet.

For access to bus roofs and windscreens, the client's workers are no longer using dangerous ladders, which needed to be constantly repositioned – a time-consuming activity. The aluminum is high-tensile for strength and welded joints provide rigidity. This unit was designed as an L-shape with stairs running perpendicular to the platform, so the whole system can fit into a narrow workshop.

A New Zealand client, Branz New Zealand, needed a faster and more safe way of accessing heights during fire tests and when fixing cladding to false walls. With each wall being a different height, they needed a platform that was easily adjustable.

Flat Walkways for Curved Tunnels

This product was originally developed for a client in Sydney Australia who operates in the large infrastructure construction.

To eliminate slipping hazards presented by the curved tunnel wall, workers can move along the length of the tunnel on a flat surface, complete with edge protection.

SafeSmart has since implemented this system in similar projects around the world.

Based on our standard Cantilever Platform with the ability for the cantilever section to adjust to a 3' 3" range. In addition, for one client, we custom-designed this one to have a step through gate that allows the operator to step through into an area enclosed by a loop handrail.

For machinery service workshops, distribution centers and anywhere low-level height access also requires assistance with reaching out to work areas.

These scaffold towers are made from high tensile 6261 T6 aluminum extrusion. They are popular with many industries across America, and they comply to strict regulations for working at height.

Extrusions feature 0.14"-thick walls, and the system can be further-stabilized by adding optional outriggers. SafeSmart's towers also have more cross-bracing than standard competitors' systems. SafeSmart also makes this product, for use in tight access areas, with easy and safe access to the Latvian birch platform deck via a weather-resistant trapdoor.

And for even more stability, the foot-braked castors automatically center themselves under the spindle – the ‘automatic movement' feature. Preliminary field testing has shown a max reduction of 13dBA when measured at an 8 metre distance from the rock breaker. These 4' 4" wide x 6' 6" high panels with up to 43dB sound reduction are fully transportable – easily move them with you to each construction site.

And the panel nature of the product means that you can make a combination of these fit perfectly to any scaffolding, temporary fencing and more, without any overhang that is normally experienced with standard one-piece sound blankets.
