Construction of radiation shielding rooms and barriers poses unique challenges. Every time a screw or nail is used, there is an increased risk of radiation leakage into the protected area. Previous solutions included the use of additional lead strips and discs, making the project more costly and time consuming.
RPP designed a cost effective, leak-proof, lead angle system that provides complete radiation shielding. It eliminates the need to use LEAD STRIPS and DISCS for all lead lined drywall (lead lined sheetrock, lead lined gypsum wallboard) and lead lined plywood applications.

Neutron Doors
RPP's sliding radiation shielding doors (neutron doors) are constructed with '" thick A-36 steel face plates. A-36 steel flat bars are used for the stiles and the reinforcement inside the door. Flat bar thicknesses for the stiles and reinforcement are dictated by the core of the door. The core of the door will consist of the shielding requirements (typically lead and borated polyethylene) as determined by a licensed physicist. We can also design the door with extra space inside for future upgrades which may require more shielding. The radiation shielding door (neutron door) finish is completed in the factory with a paint grade primer. RPP offers safety features for the door such as motion sensors, pressure sensitive tape, and battery backup.

Borated polyethylene is a product typically used in the medical field to shield neutrons. Made from high density polyethylene plastic with 5% boron content by weight, this material provides exceptional durability over a wide temperature range. Borated polyethylene is available from Radiation Protection Products in standard-sized sheets (48" x 96" x 1"), as well as in blocks, slabs, and custom-size sheets.
Borated polyethylene is easy to work with, fabricate, and install, making it ideal for a wide range of shielding applications, such as high intensity x-ray rooms, medical vaults and vault doors, nuclear energy or storage facilities, particle accelerators, hot cells, and more.

Industrial x-ray and non-destructive (NDT) imaging are important processes, allowing materials, products, and equipment to be inspected for hidden flaws that could not be seen otherwise. One of the most common uses of x-ray/NDT testing is weld quality assurance - verifying the quality, location, and coverage of welds inside closed vessels or similar equipment.
As with medical x-ray imaging, industrial x-ray and NDT systems require proper shielding to keep personnel safe. Radiation Protection Products (RPP) offers a wide range of lead shielding products for industrial x-ray and NDT applications.
Lead sheet serves as the ideal sound barrier (attenuator) because it is both dense and limp. Other acoustical materials in its sound transmission class can be applied in greater thicknesses in an attempt to achieve the same transmission loss, but there is a point at which they gain stiffness that negates the effectiveness of their density.
Advantages of using lead for sound attenuation include:
