THE CHALLENGE
The Ellis Building is a twelve story high-rise located in Sarasota, Florida and built in 1968 as an “ultra-modern" office building complete withgreen glass and imported white marble columns. At that time, this was the first major commercial construction in downtown Sarasota in morethan 40 years. However, the building's 1960's design proved to be less than timeless when compared to the explosion of modern high-risebuildings that erupted nearby in recent years. The rows of dark green vision glass, between rows of opaque green spandrel glass, created a dated look when compared to the sleek coatedglass buildings around it. Recently, the Ellis Building's owners decided it was time to bring the landmark into the 21st century with a facelift. Theyconsulted with the design team at Benderson Development, a prestigious commercial property developer, to create an action plan.
THE SOLUTION
The Benderson Development design team proposed a plan that included washing the building to restore the luster of the white marble columns, painting the faded and chalky metal window framing and replacing all of the windows, 38,000 square feet of glass! It was quickly determinedthat the re-glazing element of the plan would not be a cost effective option. The team investigated alternative solutions and discovered Madico'sExterior Solar Grey, scratch-resistant window film. The application of Madico's Exterior Solar Grey 20 window film created a modern, uniform look on all of the building's windows, while alsomitigating heat and glare. In fact, the film will reduce electric consumption by over 200,000 kilowatt hours each year saving thousands of dollarsin cooling costs.
The Challenge
Where were you in 1996? The OJ Trial reached its dramatic conclusion, President Clinton was re-elected for his second term, Microsoft had just launched Windows 95...and Safeco Plaza in Seattle, Washington received a facelift with Madico®'s Silver 30 (SRS 330) window film. Since then, we've seen more OJ trials, presidential elections and Microsoft launches. But Madico's film still keeps saving money for the 50-story, 754,455 ft2 landmark building's ownership, who, incidentally, selected Madico after a competing film failed after only a short time “on the job."
The Solution
Madico's Silver 30 was chosen for several reasons. First and foremost, it provides energy savings through decreased demand on the air conditioning system. It delivers superior heat rejection - 70% of total energy rejected. The durable, scratch-resistant film also improves occupant comfort by blocking the sun's heat and glare and reducing fading of interior furnishings by rejecting 99% of harmful UV rays.
Other buildings in similar climates have had Madico window film installed for more than 20 years with minimal degradation in performance or appearance. Although this film was installed prior to the “green" movement, building owners who install solar control films often enjoy significant rebates from the state or federal government. These incentive programs are designed to motivate decision-makers to implement energy efficiency measures to reduce electricity consumption.

The Challenge
A Texas school district needed to upgrade the safety and security of its 48 school buildings including elementary, middle, high school and alternative campuses. The district assembled a team of professionals including security consultants, law enforcement agents and architects to devise a comprehensive plan to increase the safety and security of the buildings and better protect the students, teachers and staff.
The average U.S. public school is more than 40 years old, and most have not had a major renovation in 12 years, states the U.S. Department of Education. This leaves a majority of school leaders looking to improve security within the constraints of the annual budget.
Madico's Solution
The team of professionals worked together and created a complete strategy for upgrading the safety and security of the schools. One component was to increase the security of the glazing systems through the installation of safety and security window film at all 48 schools.
The architect assigned to the project specified Madico® Clear 14 Mil film
along with DOWSIL™ 995 Silicone Structural Sealant and approached Sunset Glass Tinting of Houston, Texas to complete the installation. This clear, safety and security film provides 24/7 passive protection and holds shattered glass together in the event of impact. Its clear appearance does not alert would-be intruders that the protective film is in place and is extremely difficult to penetrate, delaying entry.

El Pollo Loco, a quick-service restaurant chain known for its authentically prepared flame-grilled, citrus-marinated chicken, freshly prepared ingredients and welcoming atmosphere, has been serving the Los Angeles, California area since the early 1980's. With continued expansion over the past 30 years, El Pollo Loco now operates over 400 company-owned and franchised restaurants in the Southwestern United States.
As part of its recent state-wide initiative to update the design of its California restaurants, the chain invested millions of dollars in the renovation of the look and layout of numerous locations. Once the face-lift was complete, management began to explore options that would allow the chain to maintain the fresh, updated look of each establishment and protect their investment.
The Solution
Team GK Glass Tinting delivered the solution, Madico®'s Graffiti Free®
film. Graffiti Free film is designed to protect both glass and other smooth surfaces from harm. Optically clear and distortion-free, Graffiti Free window film acts a sacrificial barrier to protect glass from costly graffiti, etching, or high-traffic wear. After such an event has occurred, the damaged film is removed and a new layer is installed at a cost significantly less than the cost of removing and replacing the glass.
“I have been using Graffiti Free film for over 20 years and have never had a customer need to replace a window. The film does an amazing job of protecting the glass from damage," said Gil Guerra, owner of Team GK Glass Tinting.
El Pollo Loco chose to have the Graffiti Free film installed on the majority of its Los Angeles area restaurants as well as enter into a maintenance contract with the installer. The maintenance contract guarantees that any film-protected glass that is damaged by graffiti or etching will be quickly repaired through the application of a new layer of Graffiti Free film.

For more than 50 years, Charlotte Motor Speedway has set the standard for motorsports entertainment and evolved into “The Greatest Place to See the Race." Nestled in the heart of NASCAR® country, the Mecca of Motorsports is the only race vacation destination where fans can immerse themselves in the sport by taking in an event at the legendary 1.5-mile superspeedway and visit the newly-opened NASCAR Hall of Fame in the same weekend.
The Charlotte Motor Speedway also features the exclusive “Speedway Club" which offers premium clubhouse seating to its members. The clubhouse seating area is indoors and offers impressive views of the track through 60 by 10 foot tall windows. While the expansive windows allow for optimal viewing they also let in a great deal of heat and can experience annoying glare. The Speedway Club windows have had window film installed on them in the past but managers of the Speedway desired an even higher performance film to further enhance their premium seating area's views.
The Solution
A Madico Sunscape dealer was contacted by the Speedway Club to offer a solution to improve the windows. Sunscape's Purelite 60 became the obvious choice due to its high heat rejection, low reflectivity and superior visibility at night.

Amalie Arena is a sports venue located in Tampa, Florida, home to the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team and a popular venue for concerts and events. Within the arena is the Firestick Grill, an upscale restaurant popular for dining before an event. A striking feature of the restaurant is the glass wall of windows showcasing Florida sunshine and city views. While the 4,603 square foot glazing system is beautiful, it created an unpleasant dining experience for many of the restaurant's patrons. The restaurant often had to re-seat customers due to complaints about the sun's rays shining down on them at their tables, making it difficult to see and heating up the space. Re-seating guests was an especially difficult request for the Firestick Grill due to the fact that the restaurant is often at maximum capacity in the hours prior to an event at the arena.
The Solution
Management at the Firestick Grill knew that something had to be done to minimize the powerful sun shining through the windows and making diners uncomfortable. However, due to the large size of the glazing system their options were limited.
In researching how best to achieve their primary goal of glare reduction, management reached out to The Enpro Group for consultation. “We conducted a thorough on-site evaluation of the restaurant, taking into account the existing glazing systems already in place in other parts of the arena, said Chris Weinhardt of The Enpro Group. We ultimately suggested Sunscape's Starlite 18 for the Firestick Grill as it would best match the existing exterior glazing as well as provide the best glare and heat reduction for the interior space. The Starlite 18 film also offers a less reflective appearance on the inside, while still providing outstanding benefits in solar energy and light control."

Southeast Bank based in Knoxville, TN built a new four-story commercial building to house their local branch, service call center, mortgage office and executive offices. The beautiful new facility was built with energy efficiency in mind and that mindset continued in the selection of the building's finishes.
The management staff had already experienced the benefits of window film at their previous location and knew that installing film on the new building was a necessity. Prior to the new space being occupied, staff met with several local window film dealers to select an installer who would be able recommend the best product and meet their high expectations.
The Solution
Promark Window Tinting was selected as the installer of choice due to the company's expertise and large range of high-end product offerings. To best meet the glare and heat reduction concerns of the bank, while still providing a film with a strong aesthetic appeal, Promark suggested Sunscape Purelite 40. Where soft light is the desired effect, this technologically-developed window film allows excellent solar protection while providing a very soothing view and appearance.

The Challenge
An inefficient and visually unappealing glazing system plagued a large commercial building in Barcelona, Spain. Built in the 1980's, the building lacked sufficient insulation leading to temperature disparities and an overworked HVAC system. The exterior glazing aesthetic was also dated and lacked cohesion due to the mismatched look of the windows.
The building's facility manager sought out a solution that could both improve the energy efficiency of the building and its visual appearance.
The Solution
The building manager selected DTI Solar Protection Solutions, S.L.U. to evaluate the building and provide a solution. The professional installers at DTI suggested Madico's Solar Bronze 20 Exterior film to improve energy efficiency, increase thermal comfort and create a uniform bronze color on the exterior of the windows. Madico's bronze film features a neutral tone that appealed to the customer over other shiny or copper colored bronze films found in the industry.
The benefit of an exterior film application over a traditional interior film application is the improved visual appearance of the windows. Exterior films also greatly improve a building's existing glazing system by lowering the solar heat gain coefficient and improving its U factor. Exterior films solve many installation challenges including inaccessible interior windows, multi-pane or laminated glass, and insulated glass units.

THE CHALLENGE
The Whalley Wine Shop is a wine merchant located in the picturesque village of Whalley in Lancashire, England. Established in 2010, this award-winning family-owned business offers over 1,000 different wines as well as a wide range of ports, sherries, malt whiskeys and other spirits. Since opening, the wine shop faced the challenge of the sun's heat coming through the large storefront windows resulting in overheated and spoiled wines. In some cases the wines heated up so much that the corks actually popped out! The cost of damaged stock meant that the Whalley Wine Shop needed to find a solution.
“We'd looked at a number of ways to try and solve this problem," explained Mr. Jones, owner of the Whalley Wine Shop. Initially we'd thought about blinds, but the last thing I wanted to do was stop customers from looking into the shop and seeing the products we offer. Another option was an awning; however, with the village's strict codes we would have to get planning permission which is very expensive and involves a lot of work." Mr. Jones finally decided to contact ARC Window Films in search of a more aesthetically pleasing and cost effective solution.
THE SOLUTION
After completing a site survey and overall assessment of the Whalley Wine Shop's unique needs, ARC Window Films recommended that Madico Nova 70, a spectrally selective window film, be applied to the large windows at the front of the store. This specialized product rejects high levels of solar heat, yet also allows a lot of visible light through the windows, keeping the interior bright.
The Challenge
The 32-year old Reunion Park building is located in Austin, Texas, where the sun shines 300 days per year and summer temperatures exceed 90 degrees F over 80% of the time. Humidity is also a factor, with summer averages topping 67% due to the proximity of the Gulf of Mexico. In other words, Austin weather makes it difficult and costly for building owners to provide a comfortable environment for their occupants. Take Reunion Park, for example. Despite having installed light bronze tinted single pane glass, the building management team frequently received complaints of high temperatures and glare. A lack of privacy was also an issue, particularly for ground-floor tenants where pedestrians could easily see inside the building.
The Solution
Madico®'s Silver 20 (SRS 220) was installed in December 2009. This film was chosen for several reasons. First and foremost, it provides energy savings through lower air conditioning costs. It offers superior heat rejection - 81% of total solar energy rejected - while improving occupant comfort by blocking solar heat and reducing glare. The scratch-resistant film also reduces fading of interior furnishings by filtering 99% of harmful UV rays.
Madico Silver 20 is backed by a 10-year warranty, though buildings in similar climates have had Madico window film installed for more than 20 years with minimal degradation in performance or appearance. Eager to support energy-efficient facilities, Austin Energy provided a 20% rebate to offset the initial investment. Similar rebates, designed to motivate facility owners and managers to reduce electricity consumption, are offered by many energy providers.
